Nexus 2 er..S?

So it looks like the Nexus 2, aka Nexus S is a reality. Endgadget managed to get some photos of the Samsung device taken about a month ago and it looks pretty awesome. Apparently it will be running Android 2.3, codenamed Gingerbread, which is a more user friendly version/update of Android. Also, it will have a front-facing camera and I expect a processor of at least 1.2 GHz (the computer I'm using to type this up is only 1.6 GHz!). Hopefully we'll get an official announcement on this soon!

YouTube Remote App: View Videos On Your PC/TV From Your Phone

Today the YouTube Remote app was released for Android users which allows playback of a video on a PC or Google TV through an Android phone. All users have to do is download the application, sign into their account on their phone and PC/TV, play a video on their Android phone, and then simply push a button to view the same video on their PC/TV. Personally, I can't see me using this app but there are some YouTube users out there that definitely will. For more details on this app, take a look at this TechCrunch article

My Phone: The LG Shine Plus

Since I am on a budget, I decided to go with the LG Shine Plus, which I got for just $300 without a contract from Telus. It has good computing specs (256 ROM, 600 MHZ processor, 512 RAM), 5 MP camera with flash, up to 32 GB MicroSD expansion (comes with 4 GB), Android 2.1 (hopefully 2.2 is around the corner) and a sliding keyboard. Great specs at a great price.

After spending about 2 weeks with the phone, I am extremely pleased with it. It runs great, has not froze up yet (my Blackberry Pearl was horrible), can play 3D games such as Raging Thunder II, I love the keyboard and the solid feel of the sliding mechanism, and the screen quality is excellent. I didn't like the preinstalled LG Home Screens and App organization, so I disabled it and went with the plain-jane Android 2.1, which I really like. Setting up the phone was extremely easy, I simply signed into my Google Account, and within 5 mins all of my contacts were in my phone because I use Gmail Contact Manger. Also, I can view all of my Picasa web albums in the Gallery.

After coming over from the dumbphone, iOS, and Blackberry worlds, I feel as if I have leaped into the future...and it's fantastic!!

Android Dominates the US Market Share

In just over 2 years, the Android OS has become the dominant mobile OS shipped for the third quarter in the US, amazing. In total, there were 9.1 million Android smartphone shipped in the US between July 1 and Sept 30, accounting for 43.6 percent of the smartphone market. The iPhone had 26.2% of the market share, which is about the same as their Q1 and Q2 numbers. I think that Android numbers will keep growing, as more device options are becoming available for users. Apple may be dominating the high end smartphone market, but Android has a hold of the low to mid range which is very important in these tough financial times (check out the US debt clock).

This Android Blog

Recently I became an Android user. I had tested the iOS and Blackberry waters, but wasn't truly happy, now I am VERY HAPPY!! This blog will be sort of "everything Android," I will be reviewing various apps/games, discussing latest Android news, listing ways of how the Android experience could be even better, and telling how I use Android in my daily life. Enjoy!!
